ARC Review: Playing the Spanish Billionaire by MK Meredith

Synopsis:

Mateu Espasa, CEO of Barcelona’s most luxurious hotel, knows how to deliver a five-star experience. When he learns the identity of hotel reviewer, London Montgomery, it seems harmless to play as her local tour guide to make sure she enjoys her stay and places his hotel back in the running for the Elite Life and Travel Magazine's hotel of fame. But every moment with London makes Mateu want her just as much as he needs that review.

Constantly working to cover her mother’s medical bills, London needs to have a little fun on this vacation. First on her list: Kiss a hot Spaniard, and her knight-in-shining-Armani at the train station seems to fit that bill—he’s local and definitely hot! But when she discovers the man charming her is really CEO of the hotel she’s reviewing—supposedly secretly—she decides to see how far he’ll go to make her dream vacation a once in a lifetime experience.

Mateu shows her the romance of his city and his soul, but when the truth comes out, the fun is over, and it turns out nobody wins in a game of hearts.

MY REVIEW

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

4 out of 5 stars

Playing the Spanish Billionaire, the second book in MK Meredith's International Temptation series was a pretty good contemporary romance. The situation that sets up this story is similar to the previous book in this series in that we have a successful, wealthy billionaire trying to take advantage of a successful women for their own personal gain, but while I liked the previous book in this series the way the situation was presented in this book was so much better, especially since in this instance both characters where on equal footing because London knew what Mateu was trying to achieve in showing her around and making her vacation memorable.

Moving on to the romance, while the relationship between London and Mateu is built on lies, the love they come to feel for each other never came across to me as tainted. While both of them had ulterior motives, the author made me believe wholeheartedly that their love was true and special and I found myself really invested in how everything was going to turn out between these two because despite their secrets and lies both London and Mateu where good people who where dealing with a lot of personal problems and they deserved to be happy and loved. But as much as I loved the love story in this book, I feel like the secrecy just went on for a little too long and in the end I was kind of upset with how much of an asshole Mateu behaved. While he did redeem himself, his behavior at the dinner made me want to smack him.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! MK Meredith is always one of my go-to authors and she did not disappoint with this book. I can't wait to read what she writes next!
