Review Tour: Between Shadows by Chanel Cleeton

Between Shadows by the lovely Chanel Cleeton released this week!!! If you haven't bought it yet, I highly recommend it because this book was so good!

Synopsis:

A sexy new thriller about love and revenge from the author of the Capital Confessions and International School series…

X lives by three rules: Show no weakness. Trust no one. Don’t get caught. She lives by the rules they gave her.

The Academy—set in London, shrouded in secrecy—it trains spies, computer experts, and assassins. Their mission? Dispensing justice and altering the course of world politics. Or so they think. In a world where secrets are weapons and some kills are impossible to forget, everything X thought she knew about her life is about to change.

They taught her to fight. To blend into the shadows like a ghost, to operate on the fringes of society, to change her identity with ease. They taught her to kill.

She’ll need every skill they taught her, to stay alive.

***MY REVIEW***

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

4 out of 5 stars

Between Shadows was a really good read. It was very different from the contemporary romances that I've become used to from this author since this book is more of a romantic suspense/thriller but it was great nevertheless. The heroine, X, was really badass and I liked her almost immediately. The hero, Luke, was also pretty amazing although it took me a little while to completely warm up to him.

The plot of this book was really intriguing. Everything involving the assets and the organization they worked for had my heart racing and kept me flipping the pages to find out more. What I especially liked about the plot was that it was intricate but not confusing. I really liked the pace at which information about these characters's pasts and what was really going with the academies and Ares was revealed. It was really easy to follow and built up the anticipation without dragging on for too long.

I also really liked the romance in this book. There was so much going on in this book that romance wasn't the most important thing but I actually liked it that way. There was enough focus on the romance to get me invested in the relationship between Luke and X but it didn't overshadow the action-packed assassins on the run storyline that I really enjoyed.

The only thing that was bit of a letdown was how quickly everything was resolved in the end. I was kind of hoping for it to be drawn out some more because of the amount of build up but it all happened so quickly and I felt like these character deserved a more satisfactory and climactic resolution after everything that we found out about their pasts.

Overall, I really liked this book. While I do love this author's contemporary romance books with heroes who make me swoon hard, I'm actually really looking forward to more books like Between Shadows from this author because sometime I just need a good blood pumping thriller to balance out my reading and she has proven that she can deliver.
