ARC Review: What A Gentleman Wants by Caroline Linden

Title: What A Gentleman Wants

Author: Caroline Linden

Synopsis:

Marcus Reece, Duke of Exeter, has spent most of his life pulling his twin brother out of trouble. An occasional thank you would suffice; instead, his resentful sibling forges his name to a marriage license and presents him with an unwanted wife. She's a vicar's widow with a mind of her own who may be the first person in Marcus's well-ordered life to make him feel…completely out of control.

Hannah can't help but curse her own idiocy. Dire straits have led her to the altar with a gentleman she hardly knows. Played for a fool, she's embarrassed, furious, and worse, married to an equally outraged stranger—an exasperating man who unleashes all manner of emotions in Hannah, not to mention unwanted desire. Reluctantly she agrees to play the wife until he can sort out the mess. But the nearness of the undeniably attractive duke and the passion in his black eyes unsettles her well-guarded heart—making her want to do so much more than 'act' the role of blissful bride…

***MY REVIEW***

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

5 out of 5 stars

What A Gentleman Wants, the first book in Caroline Linden's Reece Family trilogy is a really great historical romance read. At first I had some doubts about how believable I was going to find the plot since the heroine thinks she's marrying one man only to end up actually the wife of his twin, but it actually was quite believable and flowed really well. I ended up becoming really invested in the romance that developed between Marcus and Hannah while they were forced to pretend to be happy newlyweds and in the end this book actually became a top favorite historical romance of mine.

I really loved all the key characters in this book. Hannah was so innocent and just overall good but she was also quite feisty and stood her ground when it came to dealing with Marcus. I had a love/hate relationship with Marcus at the beginning. He was so good when it came to his family the way he took care  of them even when they didn't deserve it, but the way he treated Hannah at the beginning made my blood boil. But over time the bastard wormed his way into my good graces and I actually found myself rooting for him and Hannah to achieve their HEA. The other character were all awesome. Hannah's daughter was too adorable and I really loved Marcus's reactions to her. And then we have Marcus's stepmother and sister. If wasn't for them and the kind way that Marcus treated them, I probably would have hated him completely at the beginning but they showed me just how redeemable he was and that he would eventually be the perfect husband for Hannah. And lastly we have David. A part of me wanted to hate the idiot but honestly he was too damn charming for me not to love him.

The overall plot of the book from the very first page grabbed my attention. From the marriage of Marcus and Hannah thanks to David's deception to the plot centered on the counterfeiters that Marcus was investigating it was all very exciting. And the romance was also fantastic. It developed at a nice slow pace giving Marcus and Hannah the time to really get to know each other and I loved it.

Overall, this book was absolutely amazing and I can't wait til I have the time to read the other Carline Linden books on my TBR because I'm craving more of this author's writing. Seriously, this book was good.
